Ombrelo’s summer has kicked off with a bang. The speech-language pathology students who have joined us for summer jobs have rolled up their sleeves, gotten to work, and become familiar with the work of a speech therapist in Vaasa, Kokkola, and Seinäjoki.

ꟷ We’ve had a very eventful start! Everyone here is really nice and we’ve been welcomed in such a wonderfully warm way. These first weeks have been really interesting and educational. I can’t wait to see what the summer will bring, speech-language pathology student Elisabeth Blomqvist says.

Speech-language pathology student Anna Kivikangas especially emphasizes how valuable it is to get to know the work of a speech therapist in practice already before graduating.

ꟷ Summer jobs in our field are rare, so the opportunity to see the work of a speech therapist in practice is incredibly valuable. As soon-to-graduate speech therapists, our skills and knowledge are already at a good level, but our professional identity and confidence in the work will definitely grow enormously over the course of this summer. In addition, we are constantly learning more from each other and from speech therapists specialized in different areas. It’s like combining studying and working in a fun way, she sums up.

During their first weeks, the summer employees have done a lot of material preparation and various office tasks. They also get to continuously observe new, real client cases.

ꟷ Ombrelo’s speech therapists actively involve us in client work. We discuss the cases together, which speeds up learning tremendously. Everyone here has each other’s back, and we summer employees are treated as equal members of the work community, describes Ulriikka Latvala, who works in Seinäjoki.

ꟷ I’m also going to do my final practical training at Ombrelo, so it’s great to get to know the team, the company’s practices, and of course the work of a speech therapist in advance. I want to encourage anyone considering applying for Ombrelo’s summer jobs to just go for it! This is a really good choice, and there’s no need to be nervous at all, says Cajsa Håkans, who works at the Vaasa office.
