Psychology and neuropsychology services
The focus of Ombrelo’s psychological services is on resolving learning difficulties in children and adolescents, but services are also available for adults.
Learning difficulties are assessed through a learning difficulty evaluation. This kind of assessment is necessary when learning does not progress, even though considerable effort has been made. Sometimes, learning difficulties manifest as trouble concentrating or restlessness. It can be hard for those around the child to help if they don’t understand the source of the problems or what actions to take.
When the assessment is done early, it benefits the child or adolescent well into the future. That’s why parents are encouraged to be proactive and find out if anything can be done when issues arise. Even small changes can lead to significant progress in both learning and overall well-being for the child or adolescent.
The goal of the evaluation is to uncover the underlying causes of the difficulties and provide tools to support learning. A diagnosis helps both the immediate circle and the individual understand the root causes of their difficulties. Additionally, a diagnosis can entitle the individual to receive special support.
Usually, receiving a diagnosis is a relief for both the parents and the child. When learning becomes easier, it often leads to increased well-being for the client and for the entire family. Once the underlying issues are clarified, those close to the child or adolescent can better understand and support them effectively.
With the help of a psychologist, the client can receive a statement that grants eligibility for special support in school or daycare. In addition, clients receive guidance on new learning strategies. Families and close supporters can help foster learning with advice and various tools provided by the psychologist.
With the psychologist, at least three meetings are planned, with at least one meeting including the child’s parents. The sessions generally take place in-person at Ombrelo’s office. You can book a psychologist’s appointment even without a referral from a doctor.
Neuropsychological services for adults focus on rehabilitation, with the aim of alleviating difficulties in cognition and behavior caused by brain dysfunctions.
The goal of rehabilitation is to improve and maintain the individual’s independence and work ability, enhance quality of life, and help with adapting to challenges. Rehabilitation plans are personalized, based on neuropsychological assessment.
Neuropsychological rehabilitation may be needed by those who have, for example, cognitive or behavioral difficulties following a stroke, brain injury, or brain tumor.
The rehabilitation may focus on areas such as attention or concentration, memory, planning and problem-solving abilities, visual perception, or language functions. It can also address behavioral issues, emotional challenges, or adapting to life changes caused by illness.
